Explore the old and witness the birth of modern-day Niagara Square through photographs, artifacts, maps, and plans. Over many decades, Niagara Square was the home of city builders, the heart of heroic women, and the hub of public service and civic life. Imagine what the residential square once was, as you visit the landmark landscape by figuratively strolling through the gathering space along unpaved streets while viewing fine homes strategically placed behind lush foliage. |

Be treated to a glimpse of life inside the fabled Wilkeson mansion, home to city founder, first county judge, and fifth mayor of Buffalo, Samuel Wilkeson. Learn how his and other grand homes found new lives as headquarters for charitable organizations serving women, children, and the poor. Niagara Square is known as a center of public service, then and now. If not for a few key decisions, you will see how Buffalo’s civic center would look strikingly different than it does today!

Young visitors are sure to find mischief of “historic” proportions by tagging along with the Wilkeson’s terrier, Pinche, on a tour of Niagara Square.
