For your company to grow and experience continued success, you will need a workforce in place in Western New York that is prepared to meet the challenges of tomorrow. The Historical Society specializes in exhibits and programs that teach young people to value the past while using it to build a dynamic future for the region.

A world-class institution requires blue chip support. As you can imagine, this combination of education, exploration and fascination does not happen without participation. Red Jacket Reception

The Historical Society presents the Red Jacket Award annually to Western New Yorkers who “through quiet, continued, unbroken devotion have enlarged our awareness of our heritage in order that it may be built upon for the enrichment of our future.” The medal was first bestowed upon Seneca leader Red Jacket more than 200 years ago by President George Washington. A symbol of peace, today the Red Jacket Award recognizes civic contributions and achievement in the community. The original medal is one of the premier artifacts of our collection.

The reception is a cocktail buffet, with optional table seating, followed by the Award Presentation. It is attended by 200-250 influential Western New Yorkers and past Red Jacket Award winners. The recipients of the medal in 2003 are former Congressman John LaFalce, University at Buffalo President William Greiner, and Dr. J. Warren Perry.

For information about corporate sponsorship opportunities and reception tickets, contact Sally Treanor at 873-9644, ext. 320.

Paint the Town

This gala event features the work of 50 selected artists who spend the day literally painting the town, working on location within the city of Buffalo. The artists return to the Historical Society in the late afternoon with their works ready to be viewed and auctioned during an elegant evening reception.

Major Exhibits and Outreach

At the Historical Society, we care about inspiring young minds and encouraging tomorrow’s citizens, adventurers, and leaders. Annually, we provide outreach and education programs for more than 9,000 children on field trips to the museum and programs taken into their classrooms.

The Historical Society’s teacher training efforts help teachers learn fun new ways to teach history. We provide workshops, curricula, sample activities and ongoing support for those wonderful folks in front of classrooms all over Erie County.

The Historical Society also has a strong history of successful partnership with business leaders to develop engaging exhibits. We rely heavily on the investment of corporate resources (cash, volunteers, in-kind) to create our exhibits. In return, we offer exposure to more than 75,000 visitors per year, an opportunity to affiliate with one of the area’s cultural jewels, and most important, the chance to educate the public about the fascinating history of Western New York.

Public funding accounts for only 35% of the Historical Society’s operating income in 2003 and admission fees and retail sales for only 14%. To make up the balance, we rely on generous gifts from our friends – individuals, corporations, and foundations. Without corporate support, great ideas are just that . . . ideas. Companies like yours have brought our ideas off the drawing board and onto the museum floor to the delight and amazement of thousands.

For information about our education and exhibits programs, contact Sally Treanor at (716) 873-9644, ext. 320.
